How I use yoga to relax and beat stress! By Alison Cassidy
With the increased pressure we all face trying to get the perfect work life balance, most of us find it hard juggling paying the bills, raising kids, seeing friends and staying active. It’s no wonder that our stress levels are so high. Everyone has their way to beat stress whether it be exercise, drinking, talking or sex! What really helps me is practising yoga, as it teaches you to relax your mind as well as your body and spirit.
I find that yoga is effective in helping me to achieve a relaxed, natural quiet state and stabilises my mind and emotions. Yoga uses simple body stretches, postures and breathing techniques and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. I have been practicing yoga for 4 years now and regularly attend a yoga class at my local gym, but I am also able to practice it at home. Doctors and Psychiatrists have long known the therapeutic benefits of Yoga and Meditation to ease stress and tension, so they offer these classes to help patients be healthy, manage stress and aid recovery from illness.
Next time you are feeling stressed try out your local yoga class or download a yoga app on your phone and give it a go…. As what we do with our body influences the mind and what we do with the mind influences the body!
